The long-in-gestation Melvins remix album, announced as far back as 2006, will finally see the light of day this year. Entitled Chicken Switch, the album sees a host of avant-garde and experimental artists re-interpreting Melvins tracks, with the record expected in late September/early October via Ipecac.

Sunn O))) have confirmed they will appear at this year’s Rock-A-Rolla sponsored Supersonic festival taking place in Birmingham, UK later this month. In addition to playing with the newly reunited Thorr’s Hammer, the core Sunn O))) duo of Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson have announced they will perform material exclusively from The Grimmrobe Demos. Queens Of The Stone Age, Eagles Of Death Metal and Desert Sessions man Josh Homme is currently working on a “top secret” project according to Ipecac Recordings boss Greg Werckman. “Josh has got a new top secret project that he’s working on right now” Greg tells us. “He’s trying to get a lot of people involved in it, too, as a matter of fact he’s trying to convince Mike Patton to go out to the desert but Mike hates the desert.” No further details have emerged as to what the …

San Francisco’s cult punk outfit Flipper, widely considered to be the progenitors of grunge, are set to release a brand new studio album entitled Love, their first in over 16 years, along with a companion live album, Fight. The line-up features the three original members, Bruce Loose, Steve Depace, and Ted Falconi, while new member Rachel Thoele replaces the recently departed Krist Novoselic. The two records, featuring Novoselic on bass, will hit the shelves simultaneously on May 19th via MVD, with Jack Endino co-producing both. Domino, meanwhile, will re-release …

Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson’s cult doom outfit Thorr’s Hammer will reform for an appearance at the upcoming Supersonic festival in Birmingham, UK. The SunnO))) pair’s band, briefly active in 1994-1995, will be making its appearance with original vocalist Runhild Gammelsæter, drummer Jamie Sykes and long-term cohort Guy Pinhas. Osaka doom outfit Corrupted, meanwhile, are also slated for a rare appearance at the festival, as are the newly-reunited 80s ‘splatter rock’ cult item The Accused.
